Introduction

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to create a video DVD (a DVD that you can read with your home cinema DVD player) from a presentation or a set of Slide Effect presentations.

First step: Export your movie from Slide Effect

Please launch Slide Effect, then open the presentation you wish to export on the web (Menu File/Open...). In this tutorial we will use the "Funky" sample available here.

Then click on menu File/Export Presentation..., a small wizard dialog will popup.

On the first step, please press on Export presentation to a movie (...) button.

Export button

On the next pane, please select DVD NTSC or DVD PAL depending of your country (basically, if you are in the US, choose NTSC, otherwise choose PAL) in the radio buttons and enter a filename for your output file:

Choose export format.

Then click Next button, Slide Effect will display a small warning about disabling your screensaver: Sometimes, if screensaver appears during export, some frames on the output movies will be plain black.

Where is the option to disable my screensaver?
  • Start menu: Control Panel
  • Click on Display Options then Screensaver, then choose on the combo box.

On Slide Effect Wizard, press Next to start export. Wait some minutes (export can be a bit long... well, go take a coffee, it is sometimes really loooong) and when it is finished click Ok and close Slide Effect.

Second step: use DVD Flick to create your DVD

In the tutorial we will use DVD Flick to create our DVD. It is a free and full featured software to create movie DVD, with cute menus and a tons of other features and options.

You can download it for free here: http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php

Download it and install it.

Then launch DVD Flick, and click on Project Settings button:

DVD Flick Project Settings

On General Tab, change the title to something you like (this title will appear on the main menu), on my case I typed "My Funky Tutorial".

On Video Tab, change the Target Format accordingly to your previous choice in Slide Effect (either PAL or NTSC).

Then click Accept to close the settings dialog.

Now click on Add Title... on the right of the screen:

DVD Flick Add Title item

Choose the avi file you made with Slide Effect in the previous step, the click Open.

You should now see a thumbnail of your movie into DVD Flick:

If you want top create a DVD with several Slide Effect Presentations, click on Add Title... as many time as you want to add all your presentations.

Click now on Menu Settings toolbar button:

Menu Settings for DVD Flick

and choose the menu you like the most, then press Accept.

It is now time to really burn your beloved DVD! On the toolbar press Create DVD:

DVD Flick Create DVD button

button, confirm, wait a little and voilà you have got your brand new presentation on a DVD.
